ah, spring break in nyc. back to the ole' stomping grounds...
Im writing from the JFK airport since i am ohhh 3 hours early for my flight (i am always PREPARED for my travels thank you)
well this week was fun. I did a lot of thinking about this city and what i want in the future, I met up with some good friends, saw some great art, and got lost in the ghetto of brooklyn quite a few times.
things i have learned on this trip:
1. if you have to pee in your travels, GO. DONT WAIT. no i did not pee in my pants but closest call evarr.
2. NYC transit officially sucks. and so does living in fucking bedstuy. never EVER doing that again.
3. i do not yearn for this city like i once did. i now realize that this is a perfect example of how everything has its time and place and although i am still figuring things out, it is okay to know that maybe nyc is not where i want to be right now. this city does not have the same pull on me it once did and i can tell that i want to do other things right now and that is okay. it just leaves me with a more wide-open-i-dont-know when i think of my future, which is a bit overwhelming and frightening but also exciting and leaves the space for even more possibilites after graduation. who knows.
I went to a couple museums too which were fun and insightful. I saw local brooklyn artists at the Brooklyn Museum, Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock work along with a new huge list of other awesome artists i need to learn more about from the MOMA, and dinosaurs and the blue whale at the Museum of Natural History. I ate some really tasty street meat in chinatown and fabulous brunch in williamsburg.
I also picked up a number of new books on this trip, which i will document here:
the little prince-just finished it here in the airport, an amazing book that definitely hits me in a good spot at the moment.
alive-crazy andes mt survivors
The best american travel writings of 2007-this one im starting first i think
Into thin air-looking forward to what i hear is a great book
The end of poverty-pretty excited about this one too!
yayy new reading material! i plan on reviewing them here as i get through them in the comming months, dont you worry! the little prince will come next post.
It also just occured to me that i graduate in a mere 8 weeks. this is going to be wild. In the comming weeks im going to start to compile the List of Possibilites and hopefully begin to shape the plan of the future. crazy crazy crazy.
last thought: the world and timing in general is an awesome thing.
a couple quotes i came across this week:
"treat the earth well. it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children." -kenyan proverb
and me, as i was talking to an old friend today, about why i think im not that into my job right now, i said it and i think it really hits the nail on the head- "when what you care about is too far removed from what you are doing about it."
andddd now they are boarding. arrivaderci nueva york.
